UH men drop close one at Long Beach State

The University of Hawaii men's basketball team came up just short again in its second consecutive Big West Conference road game.

Mike Caffrey scored 18 points, including the go-ahead floater with two seconds left, as host Long Beach State beat Hawaii 76-72 on Saturday.

Hawaii coach Gib Arnold was then called for a technical foul - his second of the game -and was ejected.

Peter Pappageorge hit both free throws to finish with 15 points for the 49ers (8-8, 4-1).

Brandon Jawato scored 16 points for Hawaii, including a 3-pointer with 1:08 remaining that tied it at 72-72. Vander Joaquim scored 13 for the?Rainbow Warriors (9-7, 3-2), who trailed by double-digits in the second half.

On Wednesday, Hawaii lost at UC Irvine 68-64.
