Meditation, prayer workshop Jan. 26

"Our Father, Who Art in Heaven: Meditation and Study of the Lord's Prayer" will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at Trinity Episcopal Church By-the-Sea.

The workshop will offer discussion, meditation, the stations of the cross, sharing, music and scripture reading. Fruit, coffee and tea as well as a light lunch will be provided.

The event is free, but donations are requested for the Care Van, a care project of the Maui Episcopal Churches.

To register, call the church at 879-0161 no later than Wednesday.

Participants should dress comfortably and bring a cushion to sit on the floor during meditation periods.

The church is at 100 Kulanihakoi St. in Kihei.

Interfaith prayer service Monday

The Faith Action for Community Equity Maui group, also known as FACE, will hold an interfaith prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

The service will be at Christ the King Church in Kahului and will include singing, music and "Visions of Justice" offered by clergy from Catholic, Buddhist, Episcopal, Jewish and Methodist faiths.

The event will include the Christ the King Tongan Choir, the Gospeliers (a slack-key guitar band), state Sen. Roz Baker playing on keyboards, United Methodist Church choir members and a presentation on Hawaii's role in the struggle for civil rights.

The service is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by 19 Maui organizations, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition-Hawaii (Maui), 14 religious institutions and four community groups.

'October Baby' to be shown Sunday

The Kihei Baptist Chapel will host the movie "October Baby" at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The chapel is at 1655 S. Kihei Road at the corner of Welakahao Road.
