100 Years Ago

1913 - Wailuku Moose will gather in one large herd on the evening of March 15. A grand masquerade ball will be the event, and the Moose mean to make it something to remember. The Moose have a large lodge in Wailuku.

75 Years Ago

1938 - Effective Jan. 27, all passenger rates for the Inter-Island Steamship will be reduced to and from all ports. Between Kahului and Honolulu and Lahaina and Honolulu, the cost will go down to $7. Rates for Kahului to Kaunakakai will go down to $4.50.

1963 - The carpentry, drafting and sheet metal departments of Maui Technical School are teaming up to build a three-bedroom home. "The model home is being built in the front yard at MTS and is presently 25 percent complete," Bomani J. Kim, carpentry instructor, said Friday.

1988 - Club Maui first appeared in Kaanapali's waters about a month ago in the form of a floating dock anchored about 1,500 feet offshore. As of yesterday, the club was opened for its members.

2003 - Restauranteurs around Maui County were shelving their ashtrays Tuesday night as they prepared for a county-ordered restaurant smoking ban that goes into effect today. Some feared the ban would cost them customers.
