No. 1 seed and defending champion Go Soeda defeated Aiea's Dennis Lajola 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles, Bradley Klahn and Denis Kudla beat top seeds Devin Britton and Austin Krajicek 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Round of 16 competition starts today at 10 a.m. The $50,000 event runs through Sunday.
