Project part of Tu B'Shvat celebration

The Jewish Congregation of Maui will celebrate Tu B'Shvat on Sunday, with a morning of work at the Waikikena Farm, the congregation announced.

Project Director Alex Bode will give congregation members a tour of the farm and its projects. He also will oversee volunteers.

Congregation members will meet at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Haiku Community Center. They should wear long pants, closed-toed shoes, gloves, a hat and sunscreen. They also should bring sunscreen, snacks and a picnic lunch. Cold drinking water will be provided.

Project coordinators also ask each volunteer bring a gallon of water for the plants.

The event is aimed at Jews observing the New Year for Trees of Jewish Arbor Day.

'His Heart Celebration' today, Saturday

Apostolic Ministries of the Pacific will hold a "His Heart Celebration" today and Saturday at the church located at 349 Hanakai St. in Kahului.

The events will celebrate the "uniqueness of the sons and daughters of God," according to an announcement.

Scheduled times are 6:30 p.m. today and 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Speakers include Kris Miyake, Mike Lopez and Chad Damasco.
