Top-seeded Go Soeda defeated Bradley Klahn 6-4, 6-4 on Friday in the quarterfinal round of the Maui Challenger at the Wailea Tennis Club.
In today's semifinals of the USTA Pro Circuit Challenger event, Soeda - who played for Japan's Davis Cup team last year and won an Australian Open first-round match earlier this month - will face fourth-seeded Tim Smyczek, a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Steve Johnson on Friday.
In the other quarterfinals, third-seeded Michael Russell beat sixth-seeded Dennis Kudla 6-4, 6-1, and Mischa Zverev won 6-4, 6-1 over No. 5 seed Alex Bogomolov Jr.
