High-surf warning in effect till 6 p.m.
A high-surf warning is in effect for north-facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
Surf along north-facing shores of Maui and Molokai will reach 20 to 25 feet lasting though this afternoon, the service said. The surf heights are estimates of the height of the face, or front, of waves.
The warning indicates that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline, resulting in dangerous swimming conditions and deadly rip currents, the service said.
ERGObaby carrier creator to speak
The Maui Economic Development Board will host a Feb. 6 "conversation" with Maui resident Karin Frost, entrepreneur and creator of the ERGObaby carrier, which made her a multimillionaire.
Part of MEDB's Innovation Series of speaking events, the conversation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Iao Theater in Wailuku. Admission is free, and registration for limited seating is at 5 p.m.
After moving to Maui permanently in 1997, Frost was a first-time mom in 2001 and was dissatisfied with baby slings and pouches available on the market, according to an announcement. So, Frost created one designed to keep her son as close to her body as possible, while also being comfortable by carrying her baby's weight on her hips.
Parenting magazine's 20th anniversary issue named ERGObaby carrier as one of the top 20 products in the last 20 years, and Frost's business took off from there.
