Police are investigating a series of crimes, including a robbery, burglary, assaults and thefts reported Tuesday night in Kihei.
The robbery and burglary occurred at about 11 p.m. at a residence on Hapakolu Place shortly after a 40-year-old man living there returned home, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. The resident was in the kitchen when he was struck on the back of his head, suffering an 8-inch laceration, Rego said.
He said the victim reported being attacked by four men before the victim fled, leaving a 29-year-old man in the house. The second resident also was attacked by the four robbers, who took the victim's wallet containing cash, a flat-screen television and other property, Rego said.
As the four fled in a 1991 Honda Accord, the victims used a 2-by-4-foot piece of lumber to smash the rear window of the car, Rego said.
He said the car continued on to the end of Liloa Drive, where a man reported being punched while he was in his car, which was damaged by being kicked and having beer bottles thrown at the vehicle.
Another incident was reported at Hale Piilani Park at Kaihoi and Kaiwahine streets, where a man walking his dog was challenged to a fight and attacked, Rego said. The man was struck in the back of his head before he ran and had his wallet stolen from his vehicle. The man described being confronted by eight males, Rego said.
Officers located the Honda abandoned at the end of Liloa Drive with the stolen television inside, Rego said. He said some stolen property was located along the roadway.
The car was discovered to have been stolen from a driveway on Kaiolohia Street, where it had been parked at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Rego said.
One assailant was described as Hawaiian, in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and weighing 150 pounds. Another was described as Caucasian, in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds.
Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the police Criminal Investigation Division at 244-6425.
