Keopuolani Dog Park will open March 15.
Reported at an organizational meeting, this long-awaited news was delivered and received with enthusiasm on Jan. 29. The meeting was reconvened at the park site. What a joyful site.
There are separate areas for small and large dogs, a double-gated entry, abundant parking and more.
Officials with the county Parks and Recreation Department were there to confirm specifications and answer questions.
All dogs crave exercise, mental stimulation and doggie playtime. Dogs need vigorous exercise at least three times a week minimum, the kind of aerobic exercise they cannot get from daily walks. Not only is active play healthy for dogs, but physical and mental activity can often prevent aggressive behavior issues at home.
I welcome Keopuolani Dog Park. It definitely will create a healthy social environment whereby dogs and their owners can meet new like-minded friends.
