The Maui News

The Lahainaluna High School girls basketball team received the No. 4 seed in the Hawaiian Airlines Division I State Championship bracket announced Saturday night.

The Lunas, who have won 87 consecutive Maui Interscholastic League games, received a first-round bye and will play in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at McKinley against the winner of a Tuesday game between Iolani and Kaimuki.

Lahainaluna has finished fourth in the state each of the last two seasons, after winning the 2010 championship.

Maui High will play Waianae in a first-round game Tuesday at Radford, with the winner advancing to a quarterfinal matchup with second-seeded Kamehameha Kapalama.

Molokai, the MIL's lone representative in the Division II tournament, will meet Hanalani on Tuesday for the right to play fourth-seeded Kalaheo in the quarterfinal round.

In D-I, two-time defending state champion Konawaena got the No. 1 seed. Leilehua was seeded third.
