LUC to hear arguments on Kihei projects
The state Land Use Commission on Thursday is scheduled to hear oral closing arguments and to consider a challenge to the development of two large retail centers and 250 affordable housing units proposed in north Kihei.
The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Courtyard Maui Kahului Airport's Haleakala Room in Kahului.

Commissioners possibly will decide whether the retail centers and housing development proposed by Eclipse Development Group of California are in compliance with 20 conditions imposed in 1995 when the panel granted a land reclassification from agricultural to urban to former landowner Kaonoulu Ranch for a light industrial development.
A challenge from groups, South Maui Citizens for Responsible Growth and The Maui Tomorrow Foundation, and Kihei resident Daniel Kanahele prompted the commission to take up the development in the context of the 1995 land use change and conditions.

YWCA CEO leaving, will join Lanai Resorts
The chief executive officer of YWCA of Oahu will be leaving her post later this month to join Lanai Resorts LLC as vice president of human resources and community development.
Kimberly Miyazawa Frank will leave her YWCA position Feb. 22. Noriko Namiki, the organization's communications officer, will serve as interim CEO, a news release Monday from YWCA said.
Frank joined YWCA Oahu in January 2012 after a two-decadelong career in organizational development, working for worldwide management consulting firms including The Gallup Organization and Tower Perrin.
Frank, who was born and raised in Honolulu, earned her Bachelor of Science in education from Miami University in Ohio and her law degree from Rutgers School of Law in New Jersey.

James Taylor coming to MACC on April 12
Five-time Grammy winner James Taylor will perform April 12 in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Yokouchi Pavilion/A&B Amphitheater.
The concert with Taylor and His Legendary Band begins at 7:30 p.m.
In four decades, his voice and distinctive style of guitar playing produced hits such as "Fire and Rain," "You've Got A Friend," "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)," "Shower the People," "Handy Man," "Your Smiling Face," "Up On The Roof," "Everyday" and "Copperline."
Tickets go on sale to MACC members beginning Saturday at 10 a.m. and to the general public Feb. 16 at 10 a.m.
Tickets are $50, $65, $85 and $110 plus fees.
