Man accused of stabbing attempts
A man was arrested Tuesday night after he tried to stab two men after an argument in the parking lot outside a Paia bar, police said.
Kaikane Hughes, 36, of Paia was charged with two counts of second-degree assault. His bail was set at $4,000. Hughes also was arrested on three active warrants, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.
He said police responded to a report of disorderly conduct in the parking lot outside Charley's Restaurant at 8:18 p.m.
After getting into an argument with a 25-year-old man, Hughes pulled out a folding knife with a 3-inch blade, Rego said. He said Hughes was about to stab the other man when a 34-year-old man stepped in and grabbed Hughes, who then attempted to stab the 34-year-old.
Other bystanders were able to wrestle Hughes to the ground and hold him for police, Rego said.

Restructuring expert joins airline board
Peter Kravitz, who has a successful and extensive record of restructuring companies, has been appointed to the board of directors of Hawaii Island Air Inc., dba Island Air, the companies' parent, Gavarnie Holding LLC, announced Tuesday.
In addition, Island Air has retained the firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates. Specifically, attorney Van C. Durrer II leads Skadden's corporate restructuring practice in the western United States and advises clients in restructuring matters around the Pacific Rim, an announcement said.
"I am pleased with the recent efforts and progress at Island Air. The guidance of these professionals fortifies our chances for success," said board Chairman Charles F. Willis IV.
News reports had said recently that the airline was close to being sold.

State library system website up again
The Hawaii State Public Library System's website was back up and running Wednesday after it was offline on Tuesday because of "technical difficulties," an announcement said.
The Library System's Electronic Support Services Section staff has restored the domain name and all connections, functions and operations are running normally, it added.
State Librarian Richard Burns thanked library patrons and members of the public for their patience and understanding.
"We have implemented changes to ensure this will not happen again," Burns said.
The website at www.librarieshawaii.org provides access to the library system's electronic resources and Public Access Catalog and other free services including eBooks, digital audio books, online databases which provide access to full text-materials from thousands of magazines, newspapers, journals and other publications, and electronic learning materials.
