Wednesday a wet day around Maui

Raindrops pour off the roof of Paia’s Flatbread Co. restaurant Wednesday morning. It was wet in many places around the island. Puu Kukui in the West Maui Mountains, one of the wettest places in the world, recorded 5.28 inches of rain in the 24-hour period ending 2 p.m. Wednesday. Other areas receiving major rainfall Wednesday were Wailuku, 1.25 inches; Haiku, 1.16 inches; and Mahinahina, 1.1 inches. The forecast for Maui today is partly sunny with showers likely in windward and mountain areas. Isolated showers are expected in leeward areas. High temperatures will be between 77 and 82 degrees and winds will be from the east, 10 to 20 mph.
