Kamehameha Schools Maui boys soccer coach Kimo Correa and his team could only imagine what could have been on Friday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
The Maui Interscholastic League-champion Warriors had just tied their semifinal match at the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Division I State Championships when Micah Alo blasted a shot from about 18 yards out that appeared headed to the back of the Kalani net.
The Falcons goalkeeper had another idea, however, just getting a hand on the ball and tipping it wide five minutes before halftime.

Kalani scored a second straight upset with a 2-1 win over the fourth-seeded Warriors on a goal in the 70th minute by Leo Klink. On Thursday, the Falcons beat No. 1-seeded Mililani, while the Warriors defeated Iolani.
On Friday, Colton Cabanas scored for the Warriors in the 27th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Kalani's Steve Teshima started the scoring in the 23rd minute.
"Man, that was one heck of a match," Kamehameha coach Kimo Correa said. "Give Kalani a lot of credit, but our boys played lights out. We were just unlucky as far as what transpired. We had a great chance by Micah that their goalie just made a great, great save on - it just missed the net."

Kamehameha Maui will play for third place today at 3 p.m. against third-seeded Kealakehe. Kalani will face No. 2 Punahou for the title at 7.
"I'm really proud of the boys," Correa said. "It shows what the kid are about, how they play soccer - they believe in their teammates and themselves. The MIL really prepared them for the state tournament."
Detonte Llanes has been a standout in goal for the Warriors, first in their penalty-kick shootout win over Iolani and then Friday. He is getting college coaches attention with his play, Correa said.
"I have talked to a lot of coaches and Devonte is by far the best keeper in this tournament so far," Correa said. "(Defender) Kainalu Kealoha was awesome today, Brennan Joaquin and Daniel Quenga as always - they all did very well."
Also today, MIL runner-up King Kekaulike will play for seventh place against Hilo.
MIL Division II champion Seabury Hall was eliminated from the consolation bracket by Farrington in penalty kicks, 2-1. Noah Walin scored the Spartans goal in the fourth minute, while Justin Tamashiro evened the score in the 65th minute.
