Taufa, Tolutau on USA Falcons Rugby team

Two Mauians, Pila Taufa, a 2007 graduate of Lahainaluna High School, and Vili Tolutau, a 2012 graduate of Baldwin, have been named to the USA Falcons Rugby team, which carries just 12 players.

The Falcons are one rung below the USA national team, which is called the Eagles.

The USA Falcons lost to Fiji 21-19 Saturday in a tournament in Las Vegas, and did not advance to the semifinals.

Lahaina Canoe Club to hold meeting Feb. 18

Lahaina Canoe Club will hold a pre-registration/general update meeting for keiki paddlers from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 18 at the LCC hale at Hanakaoo (Canoe) Beach Park.

Any keiki members interested in paddling during the 2013 regatta season should attend the meeting.

LCC will also hold a pre-registration/general meeting for adult paddlers from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Feb. 23 at the LCC hale. Plans for the upcoming season will be discussed, a new board of directors will be announced, and nominations for the coaching staff will be taken.

Howkins gets ace at Wailea Old Blue course

Richard Howkins of Vernon, British Columbia, had a hole-in-one on the 12th hole Tuesday at Wailea Old Blue.

Howkins used a 9-iron to ace the 134-yard hole.

The feat was witnessed by course marshal Chris Armanini and Glenn Varzan of Lethbridge, Alberta.
