Chinese N.Y. specials continue

Kung Hee Fat Choy! Maui restaurants continue to uncoil Year of the Snake specials and events this month for Chinese New Year.

On Sunday, Ka'anapali Beach Hotel will feature lion dancers by Au's Shaolin Society at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. during its special brunch.

The brunch will also present fireworks, live music of the Hawaiian kind, free-flowing bubbly, and more than 50 items on its buffet.

Dig into Asian delicacies such as crispy won tons, pot stickers, steamed mini manapua, crisp roast duck, shrimp chow mein, minted lamb stir fry, and sweet-and-sour pork ribs. There will also be an iced seafood bar, chef-carved slow-roasted prime rib and Chinese-style roast pork. Specialty desserts will add a sweet finish to this annual celebration.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $42.95 for adults; and $22 for children 6 to 12. Special event parking rates apply.

Dragon Dragon is the anchor sit-down restaurant at Maui Mall in Kahului.

"We want to remind everybody that we specialize in fresh seafood," says managing partner Raymond Shek. "We ship in live lobsters and dungeness crab. You simply choose what you want from our saltwater tank and we cook it."

Can't decide what to order? Let the Dragon Dragon team suggest lunch or dinner for two at a cost of $38. Begin with crispy egg rolls, followed by spicy hot and sour soup, assorted seafood on sizzing platter, crispy chicken, steamed white rice and dessert. Or, opt for a feast for four for $98.95. Crunch Chinese chicken salad, then seafood-tofu soup, five-flavored roast duck (half), stir-fried prawns with spicy salt, eggplant with pork, sweet-and-sour fish fillet, steamed white rice and dessert. Mike's Restaurant in Wailuku is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will continue running its tasty, authentic Chinese New Year specials until Monday.
