Kihei Public Library will offer two free events for adults and children in February.
* At 6 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a screening of "Moonstruck" in the children's area.
The romantic comedy is about the lives and loves of an extended Italian-American family in Brooklyn, N.Y. This movie is rated PG. The Maui Friends of the Library is providing free refreshments.
* At 3 p.m. Wednesday, "Discovering the Classics with Papa Lopaka" will be presented in the children's area. Lopaka (Robert DeVinck) will present a dramatic reading of his "Classics Illustrated" comic book of "The War of the Worlds" by Orson Welles.
There will be a brief discussion and question-and-answer session, and Lopaka will encourage children to read the original book.
The program is recommended for ages 8 to 12 and will include light snacks provided by the Kay A. Edwards Memorial Fund. Lopaka is a writer, English literature scholar, and longtime reader of classic books.
Contact the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed for these programs.
