Hale Makua Health Services would like to thank Hands On Maui and the volunteers who came to our Paint Party on the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.
Hands On Maui organized and publicized local projects for the service day, encouraging Maui residents to celebrate a "day on" instead of a day off. Hale Makua Health Services was fortunate to have 15 hardworking volunteers at our Kahului campus. The volunteers spent the morning refreshing paint around the campus.
Mahalo to our volunteers David Bacalso, Buck Joiner, Akili Jones, Greg Smith, Michael Taylor, Myriah Wallace and the Pilialoha 4-H Club for your hard work and enthusiasm and to Wendy Stebbins from Hands On Maui for organizing the event.

The staff and Board of Na Hoaloha - Neighbors Helping Neighbors would like to thank Marilyn Stupplebeen and Everett Dowling for graciously allowing us to use their "storefront" at the recent Wailuku First Friday celebration to promote our nonprofit organization, which provides volunteers to assist homebound, frail elders in remaining independent. We were able to attract several new volunteers as well as a small donation to support our mission. Our 180-plus volunteers serve more than 350 seniors.
We also applaud Yuki Lei Sugimura and her assistants for initiating Wailuku First Friday - an event that supports local residents and tourists alike and creates connections and a sense of place for the community. Like Wailuku First Friday, Na Hoaloha - Neighbors Helping Neighbors believes in building partnerships and sharing resources in order to improve the quality of life for people on Maui.

Hale Makua Health Services is very thankful to be the recipient of a $1,000 grant from Young Bros. and Hawaii Tug & Barge. The grant will be used toward a planned renovation of our Hale Makua Wailuku activities room.
The activities room is the hub for resident cooking, crafts, painting, morning yoga, resident council meetings, playing Wii, a library, movie watching, manicures and so much more. The room plays a central role in the Hale Makua Wailuku community and is the place many residents visit with their neighbors, are able to participate in cooking a meal, dessert or snack, read the newspaper, and use a computer. Renovations will make the room more inviting and comfortable for residents and staff alike.
Support from companies such as Young Brothers and Hawaii Tug & Barge helps further our mission to improve the well-being of those in our care through compassionate personalized health services in our home and yours. We very much appreciate the dedication of these companies to health care and to the Maui community.
