100 Years Ago

1913 - Last Saturday night, the Wailuku Japanese Association was formed. The object of the association is to render aid to any Japanese who may be in trouble of any sort. Mr Otsuka was elected president.

75 Years Ago

1938 - The "see-every-island" theme again will be stressed in the national advertising of the Hawaii Tourist Bureau for 1938. The main illustration in the advertising is a color photograph of a Hawaiian cowboy with the heading: Hawaii - a great round-up of fun.

50 Years Ago

1963 - Elimination contests to determine a yo-yo champion to represent Maui in the all-Hawaii finals are scheduled. The following tricks are listed for the Maui finals: Walking the dog, around the corner, rocking the cradle, three-leaf clover, creeper, skin the cat, through the subway, man on flying trapeze and around the world.

1988 - At yesterday's anti-thrillcraft demonstration at Mala Wharf, there were at least half a dozen different, conflicting proposals about what to do. Resentment about loud, fast-water craft goes back a long way.

10 Years Ago

2003 -A HGTV crew was recently on Maui shooting footage for its historic home series. Of the seven homes in Hawaii featured, the Maui choice was Pundy Yokouchi's Wailuku estate designed by C. W. Dickey.
