Deer weigh heavily on isle

A Keokea fence weighed down by axis deer antlers bears testament to the island’s growing deer population. The state first introduced deer to Maui as a game animal, with five released in 1959 and four more in 1960. They are now considered an invasive species and number in the thousands.
