The University of Hawaii baseball team surrendered three runs in the ninth inning on Sunday and lost 7-5 to Rice at Murakami Stadium in Honolulu, remaining winless this season.
The Rainbows (0-7) scored all their runs in the second inning, taking a 5-2 lead.
Christian Stringer had three hits and four RBIs for the Owls (5-2), No. 13 in the Baseball America rankings. Strin-ger drew a bases-loaded walk off Bryan Burgher to bring in the tiebreaking run in the ninth. The next batter, Michael Ratterree, was hit by a Burgher pitch to extend the lead.
Chase McDowell (1-0) provided 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win. Zech Lemond earned his third save.
Lawrence Chew (0-1) took the loss.
Alan Baldwin had two hits for UH, and Adam Hurley drove in two runs.
The teams will finish their four-game series today.
