Maui High tennis teams improve to 2-0

The Maui High School boys and girls tennis teams each improved to 2-0 in Maui Interscholastic League play with victories over Molokai on Friday at Kahului Community Center.

The Sabers won 5-0 in the girls match and 4-1 in the boys competition.

The Farmers were playing their season opener.

In the girls match, Maui High's Lee Ah Hee and Genica Mae Aban did not drop a game in their victory over Sabrina Curtis and Kea'a Davis at No. 2 doubles.

The Sabers' top two boys singles players each won 6-0, 6-0 - Joey Baldwin defeated Keoki Kaulia at No. 1, and Devan Kepler beat Luke Santiago at No. 2.

MAUI HIGH GIRLS 5, MOLOKAI 0

No. 1 singles-Steffi Molina, Maui High, won by default. No. 2 singles-L.J. Gabiana, Maui High, def. Alohalyn Espajo 6-3, 6-2. No. 3 singles-Lauren Rios, Maui High, won by default. No. 1 doubles-Kaimana Friedmann and Shanelle Kaaikala, Maui High, def. Oceana Madani and Geisha Nunez 6-2, 6-0. No. 2 doubles-Lee Ah Lee and Genica Mae Aban, Maui High, def. Sabrina Curtis and Kea'a Davis 6-0, 6-0.

MAUI HIGH BOYS 4, MOLOKAI 1

No. 1 singles-Joey Baldwin, Maui High, def. Keoki Kaulia 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles-Devan Kelper, Maui High, def. Luke Santiago 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles-Kai DeCosta, Molokai, def. Eric Lazo 7-6 (8), 4-6, 7-6 (8). No. 1 doubles-Scott Patterson and Kelly Griffith, Maui High, def. Kamana Pascua and Pono Chow 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. No. 2 doubles-Brandon Thompson and Zach Chichioco, Maui High, def. Luke Kikukawa and Conan Kawano 7-6 (5), 6-3.
