I had wanted to write a lighthearted letter about why can't we have a great upscale East Coast Chinese cuisine restaurant in one of Wailea's upscale hotels. There are enough Asian fusion, Pacific Rim and sushi places.
But I feel a need to get serious. Our mayor is a can-do fellow. Mr. Mayor, please, please help the homeless out of Kihei. Our streets are beginning to look like Third World resort destinations with poverty, homelessness and crime staring our guests in the face.
South Kihei Road, the shopping centers all need a refresher. Bring the upscale stores to redo Kihei on South Kihei Road.
Let's bring a renewed vitality to this side of Maui.
