Government departments can survive cuts

March 6, 2013
The Maui News

I am a military veteran and also was employed by the Department of the Materiel Command (Fort Monmouth, N.J.), the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Gallup, N.M.) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (CBOC in Gallup, N.M.).

As a former federal government employee, I speak from experience in saying that all government departments could undergo a 10 percent cut in employees and not miss a beat.

The only caveat I would add is: Absolutely no medical officer or VA claims examiners would be cut, and all positions eliminated would be at the GS-14, 15 and 16 levels. All government departments are extremely top-heavy.
