Abel “Buddy” Amaral, 82

Abel "Buddy" Amaral died on March 1, 2013 at home in Kihei under Hospice Care. Buddy was born on September 3, 1930 in Lahaina and was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sara Kane Amaral, sister Gloria Akiona and brothers Edmond and Joseph. He is survived by his sister Gwendollyn Lutey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Buddy served his country for 30 years in the Army. He was a combat soldier in the Korean War and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous medals, including a Bronze Star for heroic actions in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Buddy kept busy as a mason, building walls at Waiola Church, Napili Surf and in Wailea.

Buddy loved to golf, sing, garden, cook, dive and collect classic cars. He never met a stranger and was always smiling and upbeat.

A celebration over ashes will be held at Waiola Church on March 16, 2013. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Scattering of ashes will take place privately at a later date. Borthwick Norman's Mortuary assisted with arrangements.
