Not buying the gun lobby’s cherry-picking

March 10, 2013
The Maui News

"The Federalist Papers"? Some lovely old pamphlets/ books to examine and ponder about what our self-appointed and somewhat elitist forefathers had in mind for our country (wait for it) 200-odd years ago.

Vastly different issues and mindsets from problems as they exist today. Somehow, they penciled-in our God-given right to keep guns in our homes for hunting and defense while completely ignoring the slavery on their own plantations.

All men are created equal except the Native Americans outside the walls of their impoverished settlements.

So now the gun lobby cherry-picks whatever parts of the Constitution suits it and cuts and pastes together what our forefathers really meant by bear arms.

Nice try, but I'm not buying it.
