This year’s whale watching not a contact sport

March 16, 2013
The Maui News
Rex and Anne Anderson of Cape San Blas, Fla., enjoy flutes of champagne while walking on Sugar Beach on Tuesday morning in South Maui. The couple said they were nearing the end of their two-week trip to Maui that was highlighted by some great whale watching action. They said the whale watching this year was better and not so close up as it was in 1999 when they were sitting in a kayak off the Kihei coast and had a whale surface underneath them. Their kayak capsized and Anne Anderson said she sustained scratches when she landed on top of the whale. “We made the news,” she said.
