Olowalu is one of the prettiest places on our beautiful island of Maui. It is also one of the most dangerous.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are all imperiled because very few cars and trucks even notice the 35-mph speed limit signs posted, preferring instead to race along at 55 mph. Do we need more serious accidents or, heaven forbid, another fatality before simple blinking yellow caution lights can be added on top of the speed limit signs? What could that possibly cost? It's certainly less than the cost of losing a life.
So it takes an extra minute to pass through Olowalu. What's wrong with enjoying the view as you pass under the majestic canopy of kiawe trees?
