Students advance to nationals

Twenty students from King Kekaulike High School represented Maui in the Health Occupations Students of America State Competition on Oahu on Feb. 20. Five students placed in their respective events and qualified for the national competition in Nashville, Tenn., in June and will be representing Hawaii. The students are (from left) Monica Patterson (third in pathophysiology), Lotus Chen (first in pathophysiology), Elle Fujimoto (third in dental terminology), Eileen Ballesteros (first in medical spelling) and Lillie Hamilton (second in healthy lifestyles). Michaela Thompson and Seeta Krumpe (not pictured) placed second in forensic medicine and will also be representing Hawaii in Nashville.
