Thank-You Letters

March 16, 2013
The Maui News

9th Life Hawaii has now sterilized more than 5,210 cats for the Maui community. We thank all our volunteers and vets who participated in our January clinic. Dr. Tom Chlebecek brought two other vets with him all the way from the Czech Republic, and 189 more cats were sterilized. 9th Life Hawaii is currently holding small weekly clinics. If we can help you, please call 573-3365 and follow the instructions so we can mail you a surgical consent form. This form must be completed before we schedule the surgery. You can also email us at 9thlifehawaii@earthlink.net, and we can email you the surgical consent form. Mahalo for helping Maui's kitties.

Hale Makua Health Services would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who made the opening of Care Homes by Hale Makua possible this month. Staff at Hale Makua, especially on our maintenance and environmental services teams, have worked tirelessly to make renovations and adjustments to our existing facilities, transforming what was previously the Maui Neighborhood at Hale Makua Wailuku into the newly refurbished Care Homes.

Funding for renovations came partially from a grant from the County of Maui. Hale Makua Health Services staff members and volunteers were also essential in fundraising for Care Homes renovations during the Hawaii Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Finally, we would like to thank the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association for matching a portion of funds raised during the Visitor Industry Charity Walk.

Donations and grants are vital to Hale Makua's efforts to fulfill the ever-changing health care needs of our Maui community. We very much appreciate the support of the community in our mission to improve the well-being of those in our care through compassionate personalized health services in our home and yours.

Mahalo to Maui Memorial Medical Center for sending eight volunteers to help celebrate Read Across America Day with our kindergarten and 1st-grade students March 1, also known as Read Across America Day. They donated Dr. Seuss books, spent some time in each classroom reading to our students, donated certificates to each student and provided muffins donated by S&J Bakery.

The volunteers were: Dr. Kimble Poon, Dr. Les Chun, Dr. Rodney Bjordahl, Caroline Koley, Marian Horikawa-Barth, Carlayna Nakamura, Karey Kapoi and Kevin Maier, a supervisor in the cardiovascular department who read to his son's kindergarten class.

Thank you to Maui Memorial Medical Center for organizing this special event for our lucky kindergarten and 1st-grade classrooms! We are lucky to be part of such a wonderful community!

Thank you very much to owners Aric and Myles Nakashima and General Manager Jerry Masaki of Pukalani Superette for their generous donation to Makawao Elementary School. This monetary gift will be of great benefit to the students and staff. We at the school value the community partnership we have with Pukalani Superette, and we hope this partnership continues in the future.

Kahului Public Library wishes to extend a big mahalo to all the patrons and local contributors who made our 50th anniversary on Feb. 9 a huge success. More than 800 people came to watch performers, eat treats and participate in the fun. An extra "thank you" goes out to the Maui Friends of the Library, which sponsored our program. Again, thanks to all!
