1938 - Details of the program for the hula iniki to be given by Mrs. Emma Sharpe's hula classes, held under the auspices of the Alexander House Settlement, were announced this week. Approximately 85 dancers, 30 of them children, will perform.

1963 - KMVI celebrates its 16th birthday on Saturday, March 16. Maui's Own station went on the air in a live broadcast from Baldwin Auditorium at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 1947. Maui Publishing Company's general manager, Ezra Crane, spoke the first words, "KMVI is on the air."

1988 -Former competitive swimmer Linda Crockett Lingle took her case for a bond issue that would fund three public swimming pools to a community meeting in Pukalani. The pools would be built Upcountry, in Kihei and in Lahaina.

2003 - On the day before Lent, Mary DeCosta of Kuau continued her 60-year Fat Tuesday tradition of making malassadas and doughnuts for her family. DeCosta filled eight large pans of sugar-coated malassadas for her extended family.
