Protecting children is not a priority in Hawaii

March 19, 2013
The Maui News

A 46-year-old man is serving a one-year jail term for sexually abusing a boy in what the child's mother called her "worst nightmare come true" (The Maui News, Feb. 28).

Here is the Hawaii equation for punishing an animal for ruining a person's life: Rape a child = 1 year in jail.

This is another example of Hawaii absurdity. Sen. J. Kalani English can push through the Steven Tyler Act but refuses to promote a Hawaii version of Jessica's Law. He is shamefully more concerned about celebrity privacy than he is about child protection.

Our legislators can pass laws protecting whales, turtles, cats, dogs, fish, reefs and - oh, let's not forget - the monk seals, however do nothing to protect the children of Hawaii.
