Kamehameha Schools Maui junior Aaren Soriano won the state Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year award Tuesday on Oahu, according to West Maui Rep. Angus McKelvey.

Now, Soriano, a member of the Makawao Clubhouse, will go on to represent Hawaii in regional and national competitions.

In January, he received the Eugene Freedman award for Youth of the Year by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui. The honor is an annual title given to an outstanding member from among the six Boys and Girls Clubs on the island.

He has said his plans include attending either Yale or Stanford University to study law.
