March set to protest GMOs

March 22, 2013
The Maui News

A "March In March" in Wailuku to protest genetically modified organisms and the use of chemicals in agricultural crops that may be seeping into the ground will be held at noon Saturday.

The march will run from War Memorial Stadium to Whole Foods Market and back, organizers said.

The organizers of the march are Hawaii GMO Justice Coalition, Ocean Defender, Dustin Barca, Walter Ritte and Oriana Kalama.

"Hawaii Nei is our delicate resource. We are the people . . . who must bridge the gap and create more awareness," said a news release about the event.

"We must keep biotech companies from taking over our agricultural lands of Hawaii."

Organizers are asking participants to wear green or red.
