Groundbreaking set for Nahiku center
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Nahiku Community Center will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The new 2,689-square-foot community center includes a social hall, covered entry lanai and full kitchen along with restrooms and storage.
The total contract for the center was $641,206 and was awarded to Maui Kupono Builders LLC.
Funding for the center included a $250,000 state grant.
Because all of the funds have not been garnered yet, county officials say it could take as long as two years to finish the project. Construction is scheduled to begin in May.
