Describing Social Security as a ‘benefit’ is wrong

I received the March issue of the AARP bulletin recently and am again irritated by the continued use of the word "benefits" as related to Social Security. It is a return on investment from money that I and my employer, and for the past 40 years as a self-employed person, paid into the system and am now drawing it out.
