UH baseball drops Big West opener

The University of Hawaii baseball team dropped its Big West Conference opener to UC Santa Barbara 7-6 on Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbows (5-17) had runners on first and second bases and a run in in the bottom of the ninth before Kalei Hanawahine grounded into a game-ending double play.

Kaeo Aliviado led Hawaii with three hits, while Marc Flores and Trevor Podratz each had two hits. Podratz drove in four runs.

UCSB (13-10) scored two times in the top of the ninth to break a 5-5 tie.
