Churches to hold joint service tonight
A joint Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Kihei Lutheran Church with the Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea and Kihei Tongan United Methodist Mission.
The service will include readings of Christ's Passion and the extinguishing of candles. The Kihei Lutheran choir will provide music.
On Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Christ will be celebrated at Kihei Lutheran Church in services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Both services will include Holy Communion, along with the congregation's choir and hula group.
At 9:15 a.m., there will be a Keiki Resurrection Celebration with a luau/potluck lunch to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Good Friday, Easter services announced
Hope Chapel Kihei will hold its Good Friday services at 6 and 8 p.m. today.
There will be no children's ministry at 8 p.m.
The church's Easter Sunday services will begin with a sunrise service on the church lawn at 6:13 a.m., with no children's ministry. That service will be followed by Easter celebrations at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.
The church is at 300 E. Welakahao Road.
Free Easter luau offered Sunday
New Hope Kahului will hold a free Easter Sunday luau at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani.
The event will feature Hawaiian food, music and fun for children.

Movie to be shown after service
Wailuku Door of Faith Church will observe Good Friday with a service at 6:30 p.m. today, preceded by candlelight personal communion and reflection beginning at 6 p.m.
After the service, there will be refreshments at 7:30 p.m. and the movie "Passion of the Christ" will be shown in the sanctuary at 7:45 p.m.
The church will hold a community Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday at the War Memorial Stadium.
Children to present program Sunday
The Apostolic Faith Church in Lahaina will celebrate Easter with "God's Love," a program by Sunday School children at 10 a.m.
Annette Pagay will direct the program, which will include songs, instrumentals and recitations of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Nine-year-old Donnelle Leandro is program announcer, and 10-year-old Talia Pagay is narrator.
At the 7 p.m. service, Pastor Kenneth Alverio will preach.
The church at 1211 Front St. is recognizable by the sign "Jesus Coming Soon" atop its roof.
Easter service, egg hunt planned
Kahului Union Church will hold its Easter service titled "Why the Cross? Why the Resurrection?" at 9 a.m. Sunday under the "big tent" on the church grounds.
There will also be an egg hunt and crafts for children and a light lunch.
first Easter service North Shore Church will hold its first Easter service in Haiku at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The nondenominational Bible church meets at Haiku Elementary School, 105 Pauwela Road.
