Flavors of the harvest

April 25, 2013
The Maui News

Nearly 1,000 Kihei School students are scheduled to sample pizza and Asian stir-fry made with products they helped plant, maintain and grow in celebration of Harvest Week, which began Wednesday and runs through Friday. This marks the sixth year that the nonprofit community program Grow Some Good has assisted with the Kihei School garden that has grown to a quarter-acre in size. Besides learning about sustainability and eating healthy food grown locally, the kids also get a dose of things like science, history, math and economics. Maui chefs volunteering to prepare meals this week include Christopher Kulis, Brian Etheredge, Peleg Miron, Nicholas Porreca, Eric Mitchell, Dan Fiske and Jana McMahon.
