Art of Trash displayed at Maui Mall

April 27, 2013
The Maui News

FIRST PHOTO: Wailuku's Vernette DeLaveaga and her daughter, Abigayle, take in this year's Art of Trash exhibit Thursday afternoon at the Maui Mall in Kahului. In the foreground is honorable mention winner "Fear Not" by Kelly Sullivan. Sullivan's piece incorporates barbed wire and a gas mask with rose petals behind the goggles. As in previous years, the exhibit, juried by Big Island artist Ira Ono, features a wide range of themes, techniques and recycled materials, everything from heavy pieces of rusted steel to bottle caps and cigarette butts to a cuckoo clock. The exhibit is open daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., through May 11.
