Measured but not studied

April 29, 2013
The Maui News
Reign Shepley, 3, has her height measured by dad Kodi Shepley on Saturday afternoon at the Maui Mall during the Early Childhood Children’s Fair. The Shepleys were checking out the Children’s Healthy Living Program booth but found they were not eligible to participate because they do not live in Wailuku. The five-year CHL study being conducted by researchers at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is studying the nutrition and exercise habits of underserved minority populations of the Pacific as a way of developing a food, nutrition and physical activity data-management plan and evaluation system. Wailuku parents with children from 2 to 8 years of age who are interested in participating in the study can call research associate Lillian McCollum at (808) 312-0738.
