Time for nurses to ‘relax’

May 10, 2013
The Maui News
Rose Pagan, central supply room clerk at Maui Memorial Medical Center, receives a massage from John Fujimoto of Aloha School Massage Therapy on Thursday morning in the hospital’s courtyard. The relaxing service was part of the hospital’s celebration of National Nurse’s Week, where employees enjoyed activities such as nighttime ice cream deliveries and a chicken soup cook-off. Emilou Alves, Emergency Department nurse manager, said that the activities were organized after she created “Stretch, Strong and Centered,” a 10-minute yoga exercise program that helps release stress for hospital employees. “We know everyone only has about a 10-minute break so we wanted to have something to relax our nurses and staff,” she said of Thursday’s activity. The nationwide week honoring nurses began Monday and will end Sunday.
