Sunscreen offers dual protection

May 12, 2013
The Maui News
Pukalani’s Jean Suzuki uses a dashboard sunscreen to protect herself from rain Saturday afternoon while at the Maui Matsuri Japanese festival on the University of Hawaii Maui College campus. Husband Michael Suzuki (not pictured) said the rain may have been inconvenient, but “we need it.” Steady rainfall postponed Saturday’s Division I State Baseball championship between Mid-Pacific Institute and Mililani at Maehara Stadium. (The game was moved to Tuesday at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.) Meanwhile, a rain gauge recorded 5.1 inches of rain at Hana Airport in the 24-hour period ending at 5 p.m. Saturday. Other rain totals included Kahakuloa, 3.95 inches; Wailuku, 2.12 inches; and Haiku, 1.09 inches. The National Weather Service predicts frequent showers for windward areas today and Monday, with less rain Tuesday through Thursday.
