Corey MacDonald pitched six solid innings and Lawrence Chew worked the final three as the University of Hawaii baseball team beat Long Beach State 5-2 on Saturday in Long Beach, Calif.
The Rainbows (12-32, 7-13 Big West) scored four runs in the fourth inning. LJ Brewster drew a bases-loaded walk, Austin Wobrock had an RBI groundout and Stephen Ventimilia hit a two-run single.
MacDonald (6-5) allowed six hits and one run with one walk and a career-high eight strikeouts. Chew allowed three hits and a run for his second save of the season.
The 49ers (23-25, 10-10) had won 10 of their previous 11 home games.
Long Beach State's Jake Stassi (4-3) permitted four runs over 5 1/3 innings.
The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for today.
