HONOLULU (AP) - The National Weather Service declared a flash-flood warning for Oahu as the island got pounded Sunday by an inch or more of rain per hour.
Forecasters first said the warning would expire at 2:45 p.m. Sunday but then extended it until 4:45 p.m. as rains continued to drench the area and Waikane and Waiahole streams swelled to flood levels. The warning expired without reports of major damages or injuries.
The Department of Emergency Management was urging residents and visitors to remain on high ground.
The department said water several inches deep was reported on Kamahameha Highway at Waikane.
