Mural marks spot where great futures begin

May 15, 2013
The Maui News
Baldwin High School seniors Briley Akina, 17, (from right) and Leihulu Anzai, 18, confer with Wailuku muralist Tommy Nahulu on Friday afternoon in the Teen Room of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui Central Club facility in Kahului. Nahulu helped the students transform their ideas and sketches into the mural decorating the Teen Room wall. Anzai and Akina volunteered for the project and said they took on the challenge “just for fun.” Anzai studied art at Baldwin, while Akina said he tried but was never able to get into an art class because they were always full. Nahulu, who helped students at Lahaina’s Kamehameha III Elementary School create a mural at their school last year, credited the Boys & Girls Club for helping students succeed. Akina said, “Great futures start here.”
