Free marine and ocean science activities will be featured during a Maui Mall Family Sunday event from noon to 2 p.m. today.
The event for families and school-aged children will include a mobile aquarium by the Maui Ocean Center, student recognition and an iPad Mini giveaway, according to an announcement.
Free crafts, games and trivia for both keiki and adults will be offered by Maui United Way and Read Aloud America. In addition, Whole Foods Market will provide free healthy snacks for children. Read Aloud America will do a read-aloud session immediately following the Family Sundays event in Whole Foods Market.
Also, Maui Mall will recognize select students at center stage for their achievements in academics and character. The students have been nominated by Maui teachers, selected by mall officials and entered into a student drawing for the prize of an iPad Mini.
Last month's winner was 7th-grader Kiley Kochi of Doris Todd Memorial Christian School. She was nominated by teacher Dave Gable because she "works well with her classmates and is a good influence on them."
Kochi finished first in her school's science fair and received a special award from Maui Electric Co. at the Maui science fair.
The next iPad Mini giveaway will be on Aug. 25. Maui teachers are encouraged to nominate their students for the prize via online form or letter. Students who are chosen by Maui Mall from March through November will be re-entered in a cumulative drawing for a chance to win a MacBook Air notebook during a Family Sundays finale event on Jan. 26.
Nomination forms, deadlines and more information can be found on the Family Sundays link at www.mauimall.com.
