1913 - The Japanese newspaper that is to be issued from the office of the Maui Shinbun will be larger than ever. The combining of the two papers is an accomplished fact, and the stockholders of the concern are going to see to it that it is a good, lively paper, published twice a week.

1938 - No. 1 WPA project on the Valley Island will be the new Maui airport, WPA director for the Territory told County Chairman Al. S. Spenser during his recent visit to Maui. To that end, the WPA is concentrating its forces on the new field near Camp 6, Puunene.

1963 - Plans for the liquidation of Grove Ranch, with the present schedule calling for "final disposition of cattle and pasture lands by fall of 1963," were revealed Thursday. Grove Ranch comprises almost 18,800 acres of East Maui Irrigation Co. and Alexander & Baldwin land.

1988 - Federal officials are asking for public cooperation in obtaining debris from the recent Aloha Airlines accident. The National Transportation Safety Board said people finding any pieces on the beach are asked to notify the police.

2003 - One of the last roadside stands specializing in local cuisine on Maui will be just a memory after May 31. Shaded by kiawe trees and across South Kihei Road from the Kihei Canoe Club hale, Suda's Snack Shop has been serving chow fun, saimin, hamburgers and other local grinds for more than 30 years.
