Beware the ramping up of genetically modified organism ad and article campaigns to convince you GMOs and pesticide practices are sustainable agriculture practices in Hawaii.
When you do the deeper research, you will see the real issues.
A study based on U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics, "Impacts of genetically engineered crops on pesticide use in the U.S. - the first sixteen years," shows that crop yields and sustainable practices are often not as promised or claimed by the biotech industry (www.enveurope.com/content/24/1/24/abstract).
Pioneer is currently in a lawsuit with 200-plus residents on Kauai over the devaluing of their residential lands and devastation to West Kauai due to experimental, open-air GMO field testing pesticide practices and other harms. This could be Maui next.
We still do not even have a state notification requirement of prespraying pesticides to protect schools, residents, child care facilities, health care facilities and recreation areas in the islands, let alone degradation to our lands from the amount of pesticides that have actually increased - not decreased as industry claims - along with superweeds. Report pesticide drift to your property and person to investigate to email@example.com. Post "Do not spray Pesticides" signs on your property and photograph it.

This is about respecting our aina.
