O-BON SEASON BEGINS Lahaina Shingon Mission O-bon Festival, a colorful Japanese cultural event, starts with a service at 6:30 p.m. and dancing at 7:30 p.m. O-bon is an annual summer festival held at Buddhist temples in rememberance of loved ones who have passed away. In addition to dancing, there will be a mini-bazaar with sushi, baked goods, pickled mango, tsukemono, nishime and more. Other food offerings include chow fun, teriyaki beef, chili and rice, Spam musubi, shaved ice and drinks. The mission is located at 682 Luakini St. between Prison and Dickenson streets.
